Week 1 Jan 27th - Basis for Project

Project Members

Eadaoin McCarthy, Maeve Power and Anne McEvoy are the team members for this project.

Original Proposals

Eadaoin's first proposal aimed to create a personable sense of connection between the visitor to the heritage center and one of a choice of one hundred and twenty three passengers who boarded the Titanic from Cobh. Throughout the tour the visitor would physically engage with installations to gradually discover relatable information. After the tour, the experience would be continued with more accessible content. In creating a unique experience for each visitor it aimed to break down the barriers that otherwise emotionally detach the visitor from the people who lived circa. 1912. Interactive Storytelling (IS) by the “passenger” would be incorporated to result in a compelling interaction, immersing the visitor into the passenger’s experience.

Maeve's first proposal was specifically aimed at enhancing the visitor’s response and feeling
towards the old wings within Cork City Gaol. In order to promote the idea of discovery and investigation within museum and heritage spaces this project was to not be obvious but instead discovered by the visitor. This project aimed to encapsulate the eerie feeling associated with the gaol’s history through visual, auditory and tactile experiences and create a memorable experience for the visitor.

Anne's first proposal aimed to connect visitors to the story of Nano Nagle. This is to be achieved through objects, that when interacted with reveals information about the past. Visitors of the heritage site must interact with the objects, which in turn let them uncover and discover hidden information within. The objects will be located inside the newly developed heritage centre in the South Presentation Convent. This project encourages the visitor to uncover the secret life of Nano Nagle for themselves, giving them a better understanding of her life’s story.

The team was formed on the basis that each proposal had similar aims, to stumble upon the information, to form a connection with the past and to tell a story piece by piece in an immersive and interactive way. For the BA Hons Project the focus will be on Anne's proposal, connecting with the story of Nano Nagle for South Presentation Convent. Aspects of the other two proposals will be incorporated to the final project. A final proposal must be executed before the 7th of February, however the team aims to have this ready for the 3rd of February.
